Status Update

It has been WEEKS since my last post. In that time I have presented, defended and passed the final exam for my PhD. That's right...I'M DONE!!!!! As such, the last few weeks have been filled to the brim with details in preparation for the defense, anticipatory anxiety for the defense and recovery from the defense. Who knew it would be so consuming? The morning after the big day I felt like I had run a marathon. I spent the whole day limping along.

Nevertheless, our planning and preparations for the big move to Boston have not slowed. We have selected a moving company, sold my car, made 950 trips to goodwill (you think I'm exaggerating?), had an open house (and scheduled a second), showed the house to four people (no offers yet), and organized a garage sale (scheduled for Saturday the 25). Whew! We are like two Tasmanian devils here in Eugene. There is a perpetual cloud of dust hanging around the condo from all of our activity. Could this explain the absence of the bidding war over our fabulous home?

We have also made several important decisions about our move to Boston. First, we are going to visit there for 5 days in May (May 25-30) in order to secure an apartment and for me to handle HR issues at the university. Second, we have officially decided to drive to Boston in June. With our old cat and uppity dog this seems like a must.Flying either of them (or god forbid both) could be dangerous for them and us. If you get my drift. Can you imagine, me, carrying macy in all of her 'vocal' glory through the airport hoping to all of the pet gods that she doesn't bark all the way to Boston? To that visual add Trina carrying the 'vocal', elderly and excreting Jasmine. We would probably be escorted out of the terminal, leaving us to hitch-hike our way across the US. Driving is a better option.

Currently we are planning to drive out of Eugene on June 24'ish. This will permit us plenty of time for easy drive days and site seeing (I've never driven cross country). This will also, hopefully, keep any one of us from killing another. :)

Here's to continued planning, and house selling!!!
