According to my blog countdown to Boston there are 24 short days until we move to Boston! Can you believe it? We are experiencing everything one would expect before a big cross country move. Nevertheless, the show must go on and so we spent the past 5 days or so in Boston.
Trina and I were apartment viewing junkies this week in Boston. We began our search for the picture-perfect-palace on Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. after approximately 3000 emails, phone calls and attempted meetings (not really, after all people,3000 is A LOT). We decided to limit most of our viewings to the two neighborhoods that we liked the most according to our research (conducted systematically prior to arriving in Boston). Of the 14 apartments we saw in 36 or so hours we viewed tiny, expensive apartments in high rises, larger expensive apartments in low rises, we viewed ugly apartments, stunning apartments, apartments with a view that would make you weep, and apartments with crown molding and hardwood floors that made us weep. We saw great areas and not so great areas....we walked in parks, got lost in brewery complexes, made faces, and smelled god only knows what. We rode trains, buses, trolleys and walked somewhere near 8 miles a day. We sprinted to bathrooms, searched for addresses, we drank coffee and beer (yes even Trina), ate at the same restaurants multiple times in a day and became very adept at identifying one anothers 'this is the one' face when the other had on her 'I'd rather sleep in a cardboard box' face. We were whirling dervishes of apartment hunting. Finally. During our last visit to our favorite neighborhood, we viewed THE ONE.This charming, 2-bedroom apartment is located in the heart of JP and is minutes walking to restaurants,
Now, as we land in Eugene (for what will be one of the last Eugene landings) we are struck both by the depth of love we have for the NW and by the giggly-squealing delight we feel about this big move. There is much to come!!!
During our short, but jam-packed visit we also saw a lot of the city.
We also visited Boston Common where urbanites were picnicking and soaking up the summer weather.
Over all this trip earned an A+ in productivity, A in adventure and is showed great promise for a bright and happy future.
